Evidence that services have been effective:

There are multiple studies demonstrating the effectiveness of the curriculum, Houghton Mifflin’s Knowing Mathematics. Our services have also been shown effective by two years of operation and the satisfaction of our clients.

60-180 minutes, depending on the number of sessions per week.

The service is available for a maximum program time of 30 hours, from September 1 – August 31, and will follow the guidelines of the Houghton Mifflin Knowing Mathematics curriculum.


Type of instruction:

One-on-one in a student’s home or in an agreed-upon public place such as a library. In all cases a responsible adult at least 18 years of age must be present.


Description of methods and strategies for serving eligible students with disabilities:

We are able to serve students with physical handicaps, as tutoring will be conducted in each student’s home or another public place of the family’s choice. We are unable to serve students who require Special Education services.


Description of methods and strategies for serving eligible students with limited English proficiency:

We are unable to serve students with limited English proficiency. If a language other than English is the primary one spoken by parents or school administrators, we will attempt to pair those students with tutors who speak that other language.


Qualifications of the service provider(s)/instructor(s):

All tutors have prior tutoring or teaching experience. Credentials include New York State Teacher Certification, 4-year college degrees, graduate degrees, and instruction with other educational service providers.


Reports to parents, teachers, and LEA (Content, frequency, method of delivery):

Reports are provided monthly to parents, teachers and the LEA by mail. They include the NYC Department of Education’s Daily Student Sign-In Template and a separate spreadsheet for all assessment (quizzes, unit reviews, entry and exit assessments).


Will transportation to the service location be provided at no charge if requested? (Note: LEAs are not required to provide or pay for transportation)

This is not applicable—services are delivered in the student’s home. As a responsible adult must be present for tutoring outside the home as well as inside the home, that adult is expected to bring the student to any agreed-upon outside location.


Additional relevant information:

Instructors will follow Houghton Mifflin’s Knowing Mathematics Teaching Guide, which will ensure that the content and delivery will align with New York State standards.
