Evidence that services have been effective:

In the 2002-03 school year, the K12® academic program supported noteworthy success rates against NCLB goals. All K12 virtual academies met NCLB reading and math proficiency goals, and all tested students at remarkably high rates. In a survey of parents of these students, 89% felt that their student’s academic progress had been good or excellent in 2003-2004.

Three 60-hour programs (averaging ten weeks each) will be offered each year (fall, spring, summer). The 2004-2005 program will run from January 2005 through June 2005. Meeting times for students receiving SES in small groups can be scheduled after school, on weekends, and during intercessions, including summer. Students receiving K12 SES online in a home setting can set up a schedule to suit the student.

Type of instruction:

K12 SES provides instruction to students in small groups by ability levels and to individual students at home using a combination of online and traditional instructional materials and available technology. Small group instruction can be delivered using varying degrees of available technology including textbooks, computers, printers, and technology-enabled white boards (Smartboards). Students receiving K12 SES services online will access them from their home computers.

Description of methods and strategies for serving eligible students with disabilities:

The K12 SES program will be open to all eligible students. K12 SES will provide appropriate accommodations and supports to students with disabilities to ensure such students benefit from our SES program. The individual learning plans for eligible students with disabilities will be consistent with their individualized education program (IEP) pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. K12 SES will be available in locations accessible to individuals with disabilities, to the extent required by section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (29 U.S.C. §794) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. §§12101 et seq.).

Description of methods and strategies for serving eligible students with limited English proficiency:

The K12 SES program will be open to all eligible students. Teachers working with students with limited English proficiency will have received training in that area. In appropriate circumstances, K12 will aspire to provide information to parents in Spanish.

Qualifications of the service provider(s)/instructor(s):

Our teachers have New York state certification in the subject areas and/or grade levels they are teaching.

Reports to parents, teachers, and LEA (Content, frequency, method of delivery):

When possible, progress will be tracked by teachers on a daily basis through K12®’s Online School and communicated regularly to parents/families and appropriate district administration officials. Written reports will also be made available when necessary. Formal reports will be issued at least twice over the course of the program, including a final report.

Will transportation to the service location be provided at no charge if requested? (Note: LEAs are not required to provide or pay for transportation)

Some public transportation may be accessible to and from K12 SES sites, depending on the locations of the sites.
