Evidence that services have been effective:

The staff at We Care for Children, Inc. academic program has demonstrated noteworthy success rates. All students met the NCLB reading and math proficiency goals as measured by NYSED Regents assessments and local tests. In surveying parents of students serviced, each group has overwhelmingly felt that their children's academic progress is attributable to the help provided by our tutors.

Research based curricula are utilized for instruction, including Reading Explorers and Math Achievers.

Classes provided September 1 through August 31 after school, on weekends, and during intercessions, including summer. Three semesters will allow students to begin instruction in September, January, or May to join an instructional group.


Type of instruction:

All programs are individualized and delivered in a small group setting with a maximum student to teacher ration of fie to one. Materials used include textbooks, computers, printers, and manipulatives.


Description of methods and strategies for serving eligible students with disabilities:

We Care for Children, Inc. will be open to all eligible students, providing accommodations and supports to students with disabilities. All instruction provided will be aligned with the child's individualized education plan (IEP). All satellites are easily accessible to individuals with disabilities and certified Special Education teachers are on staff to consult with other tutors.


Description of methods and strategies for serving eligible students with limited English proficiency:

We Care for Children, Inc. will be open to all eligible students, providing ESL and bilingual support as needed. Certified Bilingual teachers are on staff to consult with other tutors. All correspondence to parents will be provided in English and Spanish.


Qualifications of the service provider(s)/instructor(s):

Our teachers have NYSED certification in subject areas and/or grade levels they are teaching. All tutors are directly supervised by certified teachers.


Reports to parents, teachers, and LEA (Content, frequency, method of delivery):

Monthly reports of the student's lessons, progress, and attendance will be mailed to parents in English and Spanish. Copies of the reports will be mailed to the teachers and the LEAs.


Will transportation to the service location be provided at no charge if requested? (Note: LEAs are not required to provide or pay for transportation)

Transportation will not be provided, however, instruction is provided at 100 Terrace Avenue and the satellite sites of Kennedy Park and Antioch Baptist Church. The sites are within walking distance of students in Hempstead.

We Care for Children, Inc. has successfully partnered with the Hempstead UFSD to help students for over 32 years. We welcome students and parents from the Roosevelt and Elmont communities.
