Diagnostic Tool for School and District Effectiveness (DTSDE)
Learning Lab

Welcome to the New York State Education Department's Diagnostic Tool for School and District Effectiveness (DTSDE) Learning Lab platform. The DTSDE Learning Lab is a Learning Management System (LMS) designed to provide continued training and support to all stakeholders involved in the DTSDE School and/or District Review Process.  The Learning Lab was developed in collaboration between the USNY Regents Research Fund School Innovation Team, Northeast Comprehensive Center at RMC Research, and the New York State Education Department.  Below there is a brief description of each section of the DTSDE Learning Lab.

The DTSDE Learning Series will provide targeted participants with the opportunity to access a variety of stand-alone units within a series that focus on a variety of DTSDE processes and protocols to allow them to learn more about the specific topic of choice. The Learning Series is strictly informational in purpose and is divided into two sections:

1. New to DTSDE Process – These units are geared for participants who have not engaged in any of the New York State Education Department (NYSED) DTSDE Institutes.  We strongly recommend that you begin here as a prerequisite to attending the next DTSDE Institute.

2. Audience Specific Topics - These units are geared toward providing participants information relevant to their role in the DTSDE review process.  Some of the audience specific topics require participants to have some level of understanding of the DTSDE rubric.  Therefore, we recommend that you listen to Unit II in the New to DTSDE Process.  The series include:

  • School and District Staff and Family Series
  • Reviewer Series
  • District Superintendent and Leadership Team Series
  • School Leader and Leadership Team Series
  • Teacher Series

Coming Soon in 2015:

DTSDE Self-Paced Courses will provide participants with the opportunity to engage in a set of courses to further develop, deepen their understanding, and/or build a particular skill aligned to the DTSDE rubric or conceptual frame through a series of learning tasks and assessments.  The content for the self-paced courses will be compartmentalized by levels of beginner, intermediate and experienced.

DTSDE Expert Series will provide participants the opportunity to listen to experts in the educational field talk about effective practices aligned to the DTSDE.  During this phase, the LMS will include videotaped conversations with National School Reform Experts, USNY Regents Research Fellows and New York State Education Department staff about concepts that undergird the rubric.   Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a series of tasks aligned to the talks on the videos to support their learning and engage in an on-line professional learning community dialogue to deepen their understanding, skills and knowledge around school and district effectiveness.
