Important Clarification Regarding NYSESLAT Answer Sheets
It has come to our attention that some NYSESLAT (New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test) scannable answer sheets may indicate that a student having taken an English Language Arts (ELA) assessment and/or NYS Alternate Assessment is a valid reason for not having taken the NYSESLAT.
Please note: LEP students may not be exempted from taking NYSESLAT by reason of having taken an ELA assessment or NYSAA. All LEP students in New York State must take the NYSESLAT, even if s/he also takes an ELA test. Each LEP student with a disability must take the NYSESLAT, even if s/he also participates in the NYSAA.
Rules for reporting these scores can be found in the LEAP manual at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/irs/leap/home.shtml and in the STEP manual at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/irs/STEP/home.shtml
The NYSESLAT School Administratorís Manual can be found at http://www.p12.nysed.gov/assessment/nyseslat/sam05.htm
Since the testing period will end on May 20, if you have questions, please send them right away to firstname.lastname@example.org .
