Part D – Lab-Practical Performance Component – Physical Setting/ Earth Science Regents Examination

Change in Administration Date

The State Education Department has changed the administration date of the implementation of the new lab-practical performance component (Part D) for the Physical Setting/Earth Science Regents examination. The Department originally planned to provide the new lab-practical form beginning with the June 2004 test administration period, but the need for professional development of teachers in advance of test administration requires a change in the administration date. The Department will continue to provide the current lab-practical test form as a component of the examination, and will implement the new lab-practical performance test form as soon as sufficient professional development of Earth science teachers has taken place.

In an effort to assist the field in preparing for the implementation of the new lab-practical component, the Department will organize an advisory committee which will assist in the creation of an implementation strategy including articulation of a professional development plan for regional and local workshop sessions. When we have evidence of the field’s readiness, we will set a date for the first administration of this new component. The current lab-practical test form will continue to be used until that time.
