Title IA Improving the Academic Achievement of the Disadvantaged


Program Purpose (Allocation)

New York State receives over $1 billion annually under ESEA Title I, Part A, Education for the Disadvantaged program authorized by No Child Left Behind. These funds are available to provide Academic Intervention Services to eligible students in both public and nonpublic schools.

The uses of these funds governed by Section 100.2(ee) of the Regulations of the Commissioner Regulations, Academic Intervention Services, with the standard federal prohibitions of not supplanting local funds. Programmatic uses include expenses for: supplemental instructional staff, certain administrative costs (including some salaries), professional development, parental involvement, related supplies and materials, related travel, and employee benefits for program staff.
