Math/Science/Technology (MST) as the Third Unit of Math or Science under the Revised Graduation Requirements

The third unit MST option (Commissioner’s Regulation 100.5 (j)) is an instructional approach requiring local school district/BOCES's curriculum development and does not refer to specific or existing State-developed courses.  When developed as described in policy, the program of study must be based on technology education learning standard #5 and appropriate science and mathematics commencement-level State learning standards  http://www.p12.nysed.gov/cte/technology/thirdunitoption.html.

The policy specifically requires that the teacher(s) of the program be certified in technology education, mathematics or science.  Instruction for the MST course may be co-delivered. In addition, if the MST course is to be used for credit as part of a technology education sequence or approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, a certified technology education teacher must teach it.  Teachers that are certified in any other CTE subject areas are not certified to teach the third unit MST option.
