Commissioner’s Regulations 100.4 (c) (1) (xiii)

c. Units of study in grades 7 and 8.
  1. Except as otherwise provided herein, all students shall be provided instruction designed to enable them to achieve, by the end of grade 8, State intermediate learning standards through:
    1. English language arts, two units of study;
    2. social studies, two units of study;
    3. science, two units of study;
    4. mathematics, two units of study;
    5. technology education, one unit of study; provided that for the 2018-2019 school year and thereafter, this unit of study requirement shall be replaced by that described in subparagraph (xii) of this subdivision;
    6. home and career skills, three quarters of a unit of study; provided that for the 2018-2019 school year and thereafter, this unit of study requirement shall be replaced by that described in subparagraph (xii) of this subdivision;
    7. physical education, as required by section 135.4(c)(2)(ii) of this Title;
    8. health education, one half unit of study, as required by section 135.3(c) of this Title;
    9. the arts, including one half unit of study in the visual arts, and one half unit of study in music;
    10. library and information skills, the equivalent of one period per week in grades 7 and 8 ;
    11. languages other than English pursuant to section 100.2 (d) of this Part;
    12. career development and occupational studies; and
    13. for students in schools that have vacancies in teacher positions for the courses described in subparagraphs (v) and (vi) of this subdivision during the 2017-2018 school year, and for all students in the 2018-2019 school year and thereafter, career and technical education (i.e., technology education, family and consumer sciences, trade and technical subjects, business, agriculture, and/or health sciences), for a total of one and three fourths units of study.
