Questions and Answers

  1. Can a district submit an application to continue the program as is, or is it necessary to develop a new project or expand existing services in 2009/2010?

    Districts that wish to continue or expand existing programs must submit a new application outlining all aspects of the program that is to be continued or expanded.

  2. Is it allowable to provide the objectives (and relevant activities, etc.) for each component in chart form?

    Yes. Objectives and relevant activities may be provided in chart form, reinforced by the program narrative.

  3. Can a school district apply for just one school?

    This grant has been written for public school districts with approved comprehensive plans under CR Part 154 for middle and/or high schools; however, districts may design programs for one or more schools, based on existing needs.

  4. Is a final expenditure report due? How do we collect the funds we have spent?

    Yes, a final expenditure report should be submitted soon after completion of the grant period. The NYSED Grants Management Office is responsible for releasing funds to districts that have been approved for this grant.

  5. May the narrative be single spaced, with a 12 point font?

    Yes, the narrative may be singled spaced with a font size no smaller than 12 point. However, in instances where a chart is being used you may use a smaller font as long as it is clearly legible. Margins should be at least one inch, in conformity (as much as possible) with standard APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines for the preparation of formal documents.

  6. Where can I find the 2009 Student/School Data Report form and the 2009 List of Teachers form?

    Those forms are not included or required in this application.

  7. Is this grant for Middle and high schools only, or is it also open to elementary schools?

    Yes, public school districts with comprehensive plans under CR Part 154 may submit an application for a program only for middle and/or high schools. The grant funds are not for elementary schools.

  8. Can districts that have applied in the past reapply?

    Yes, anyone who wishes to reapply may do so by submitting a new application by the postmark date of November 2, 2009.

  9. If there is a partner organization, should this organization provide a letter, and should this letter be included in the ten page requirement?

    This grant is for public school districts only. Planned activities and programs may be documented in the ten page narrative.
