2009-10 Grant Application for School Districts with School Under Registration Review (SURR)
Purpose of Allocations:
To support activities in New York State School Districts with Schools Under Registration Review (SURR), to implement their Corrective Action Plan, Comprehensive Education Plan, and Redesign Plan.
Grantees:
New York State School Districts with Schools Under Registration Review (SURR) as of June 2009.
Funds Available:
A total of $1,751,000 is available for the grant period from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010 and will be allocated to districts with SURR schools as follows:
- New York City $780,600
- Buffalo $402,240
- Rochester $318,160
- Syracuse $150,000
- Roosevelt $ 50,000
- Mount Vernon $ 50,000
Program Goals:
Applicants can select the goal (s) that they wish to support under this grant from the following list:
- To recruit and train certified teachers and experienced principals to work in SURR schools.
- To support ongoing after school professional development activities for SURR school staff.
- To increase the amount of instructional time available for students in SURR schools by operating an extended day/week program.
- To support and plan activities in schools that are in the process of redesigning or open as successors to SURR schools.
- To improve the academic programs in SURR schools to reduce student failures.
- To improve students' retention and decrease the drop out and absence rate of students in SURR schools.
