Definition: |
This grant is for newly identified Title I schools identified as Improvement schools in August 2009 to develop improvement plans; implement recommendations resulting from the SED SQR report; meet their progress goals; and thereby improve student performance. |
Funding: |
Each district with Improvement phase Title I schools newly identified in August 2009 is eligible to receive a grant based on the number of Title I schools in each category of Improvement, i.e., Basic, Focused, and Comprehensive. Districts are eligible to receive the following for each Title I school identified:

Purpose of Funding: |
The Mathematics and Science Partnerships is a competitive grant program intended to increase academic achievement of students in mathematics and science by enhancing the content knowledge and instructional skills for teachers of mathematics and science. Partnerships between high-need school districts and the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) departments in institutions of higher education are at the core of these improvement efforts. |

2010 New York State Charter Schools Stimulus Fund |
Description: |
The State Education Department (SED) has received New York State charter schools stimulus funds for grants for the development, implementation and operation of charter schools. Funds may be used for start-up costs and costs associated with the acquisition, renovation or construction of charter school facilities. |
Eligible Applicants: |
Charter schools authorized by the Board of Regents are eligible to apply to the State Education Department for this funding. An applicant must have received its provisional charter at the time of the application due date. Charter schools previously receiving a State Stimulus Fund Grant may reapply. However, priority is given to charter schools that have not previously received State Stimulus Funds.
Charter schools authorized by the Trustees of the State University of New York (SUNY), Buffalo Board of Education, or the Chancellor of the New York City Public Schools (Chancellor) must contact SUNY Charter School Institute (CSI) to apply for this funding. Grant funds totaling $640,431 are available for this program. Awards of up to $100,000 will be made for costs associated with the acquisition, renovation or construction of charter school facilities.
Awards of up to $50,000 will be made for start-up costs.
Applications may be submitted for up to $100,000 for costs associated with the acquisition, renovation or construction of charter school facilities or up to $50,000 for start-up costs, but not for both. |

2009-10 Bilingual/ESL Supplementary Intervention Grant |
Description: |
The purpose of the Bilingual/ESL Supplementary Intervention grant is to provide funds for an extended day program in public middle and high schools to prepare Limited English Proficient/English Language Learners (LEP/ELLs) to pass the examinations required for promotion and graduation. |
Eligible Applicants: |
Public School Districts with approved Comprehensive Plans under CR Part 154 for middle and/or high schools. |
Funding: |
Grants of a maximum of $25,000 may be awarded to public school districts for the project period starting on December 1, 2009 and extending to June 30, 2010. |

Description: |
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 requires that State Education Agencies allocate funds to local education agencies to support Title I schools identified for improvement to meet the progress goals in their school improvement, corrective action and/or restructuring plans and thereby improve student performance. |

LEAs that have Title I schools identified for improvement for 2009-10 will receive an allocation based upon the number of schools in the following categories:

Submit one original and three (3) copies of completed applications to: Nydia Mennuti, Associate State grant funds are available for school districts with Schools Under Registration Review (SURR) to enable oversight of the restructuring and redesign process in schools that are farthest from State standards and most in need of improvement. Legislation requires that these funds be appropriated for the exclusive purpose of providing additional services to SURR schools. Where multiple SURR schools exist within a district, the allocation should be distributed equitably amongst SURR schools based on student's enrollment. |

2009-14 Two-Way Bilingual Education Program |
Description: |
A Two-Way Bilingual Education Program integrates limited English proficient (LEP) students with English proficient (EP) students in an instructional program that uses two languages for instruction. The primary purpose of this grant program is to develop academic excellence and bilingual proficiency for LEP and English Proficient (EP) students and to promote new Two-Way language programs in school districts outside of New York City. Two-Way Bilingual Education programs are composed of three components: (1) Instructional; (2) Parental Involvement; and (3) Staff Development. |

Description: |
A planning and implementation grant for public school districts with schools, identified as Schools in Need of Improvement - Year 1 (SINI – 1) in March, 2009, that completed the SQR Basic Review process in the spring of 2009. Grant funds must be used to implement the recommendations identified in the SQR report. |
