Special Education Services in Charter Schools

This webinar is offered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) P-12 Charter School Office to provide information about the fundamental systems, protocols and service requirements that charter school leaders and special education coordinators must fully understand in order to provide appropriate and quality education for their students with disabilities. 

The webinar will be presented by Patricia Geary, Coordinator of Special Education Policy and Professional Development and Barbara Miller, Associate in the Special Education Policy Unit of NYSED’s Office of Special Education.  The content will provide an overview of the special education process and the related key roles and responsibilities of both school districts and charter schools.  This information is essential for key personnel in the 27 charter schools that will be opening in 2012. It is highly relevant for all new and operating charter school leaders and charter school special education coordinators in New York State.

The session will be informational and time for immediate responses to participant questions during the presentation will be limited.  However, participants will be directed to the appropriate State Education Department contacts and resources for responses to follow-up or specific questions and for additional information.
