Transfer Application Process

Newly-enacted New York Education Law § 2851(5) permits a charter school overseen by one authorizer to apply to be overseen by any other authorizer for a period of one year.  Charter schools interested in this option should contact the Charter School Office at (518) 474-1762 for information on how to request an application. The application will only be provided to charter schools that are eligible to transfer under the provisions of New York Education Law § 2851(5) and meet the NYSED policy of either having a full-term charter renewal or, if they are in a renewal year, being renewed by their current authorizer and receiving a full-term renewal at that time.

The Charter School Office will review all applications for transfer submitted by 3:00 p.m. on June 23, 2017 and, based on the strength of the applicant’s existing school(s), will recommend those that qualify to the Board of Regents for approval.
