Transfer Application Process

Newly-enacted New York Education Law §2851(5) permits a charter school overseen by one authorizer to apply to be overseen by any other authorizer for a period of one year.  Charter schools interested in this option should contact the Charter School Office at (518) 474-1762 for information regarding how to request an application. It is the position of the Charter School Office that, in the case of a charter school that is currently in a renewal year and has not been renewed for a full five-year term (e.g., the renewal application is still pending or the renewal has been approved but for less than a five-year term), the school would not be recommended by the Charter School Office to the Board of Regents for transfer.

The Charter School Office will review all applications for transfer, submitted by 3:00 p.m. on June 23, 2017, and, based on the strength of the applicant’s existing school(s), will recommend those that qualify to the Board of Regents for approval.
