COVID-19 Remote Learning Resources for Charter Schools
We are compiling a list of resources that charter schools across New York State can use to help to support families throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Finding resources to help with services, academic and non-academic, can be difficult but we hope that this list can make that task easier. - Free/Low Cost Internet Service Options:
- Charter is offering free broadband and WIFI for a limited time to students to help learn during the outbreak.
- Verizon FIOS is tripling data tier allowances.
- Comcast is offering free WIFI hotspots.

LiveWire has piloted a program where school buildings provide free rent on top of their building for ISPs to build platforms in rural communities.

The National Digital Inclusion Alliance has a COVID-19 resource page.

Under the Community Reinvestment Act, some banks will refresh and donate computers. Networks can also be financed under this Act.

School districts can partner with libraries to check out hotspots and devices

Leasing equipment can ensure that equipment is refreshed every three years.

- PBS is offering many learning resources to help children continue to learn away from school.
- Adobe is offering free student access until July 6, 2020
- Mental Health Support: The New York State Office of Mental Health has provided guidance for telemental health services in New York State.
- Housing Security: Evictions and eviction proceedings have been suspended statewide.
- Coronavirus and Parenting: NPR’s Life Kit podcast put together this episode and webpage full of information parents need to know.
- Teach and Learn with the New York Times: This resource from the New York Times puts together lesson plans and ways to talk about current events in the classroom.
- Schools and Childcare Programs: Here is guidance from the CDC for schools and childcare programs to use before and during an outbreak.
- Unemployment relief: New York State has waived the seven day waiting period for workers to claim unemployment insurance
- Assignment Analysis Guide: When creating math assignments, this guide can provide as a resource for analyzing current assignments.
- Tutoring: The New York Public Library offers this free online tutoring resource for students daily from 2-11 p.m. Research resources and other remote and digital resources from NYPL are outlined here. Currently processsing for library cards are down, but many resources are still available online.
