December 2, 2011 RFP

Subject:  Limited State Stimulus Funding Available – DRAFT RFP Posted

As many of you know, 2011 marked the first year that SUNY administered the New York State Charter School Stimulus Fund grant program for all charter schools, those authorized by SUNY, the Board of Regents, the New York City Schools Chancellor and the Buffalo City School District.  I am pleased to announce that the SUNY Trustees recently voted to award: 24 technology grants totaling just under $1.2 million; and 10 facilities grants totaling nearly $967,000. Awardees are posted on the Institute’s website at: External Link    Formal award letters detailing contract terms will be mailed shortly.

I am writing to all schools today because this recent action by the SUNY Trustees left approximately $940,000 in available funds that can still be awarded.  While we had a large number of applicants in this most recent round, there were not enough proposals that qualified for an award under the terms of the RFP.

To that end, we wanted to quickly issue a second RFP for interested schools, this time with a slightly different focus (note that schools that were approved for an award in November would be ineligible to apply). There are two categories of award in this RFP, which is attached and also posted at the web address above: Facility Funding and Start-Up/Implementation.  In order to allow grantees adequate time to expend funds, there is a quick turnaround timeline associated with this RFP.   The response deadline is January 3, 2012  at 5:00 p.m. In fact, we are posting the RFP in DRAFT today, though there are still some procedural steps that need to be completed with the SUNY contracts office.  Once that process is complete, we will issue the RFP in final.

We understand how important this funding is to schools and want to make every effort to award all allocated dollars.  If you have any questions, please contact Maureen Murphy, Director of Charter Accountability at:
