Special Considerations

The Committee must consider:

  • Behavior

  • Limited English proficiency

  • Use of and instruction in the use of Braille for blind or visually impaired students

  • Communication needs including language/ communication needs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing

  • Assistive technology

For each student, the Committee must consider whether the student needs a particular device or service to address special factors. These are need areas of the student that must be identified under the student’s present levels of performance.

If any of the special considerations are checked ‘Yes’, then the Committee must ensure that a device or service, including an intervention, accommodation or other program modification needed for the student to receive FAPE is indicated in the IEP under the applicable section of the IEP.
