These next two slides provide examples of how the academic achievement, functional performance and learning characteristics of a student can be documented in an IEP. These examples, in both narrative and bulleted formats, are used to demonstrate how present level of performance information could be documented in a student’s IEP.

Whatever format is selected, it is important that this section of the IEP is written clearly enough so that parents and educators understand how the student’s disability affects his or her performance in the general education curriculum and what that means for instruction.
