Slide 25: Other information required by law and/or regulation in meeting notice
The notice informs the parents about their right to invite other individuals who have knowledge or special expertise about their child, to the meeting and encourages the parent to notify the district if they have done so.
If the parent intends to invite an individual with knowledge or expertise, the parent is responsible for issuing that invitation. While the district could send an invitation to an individual invited by the parent, it is not required to do so.
If the parent notifies the district (before the meeting notice is sent) that someone the parent has invited to the meeting will be attending the meeting, the district should include that person on the list of people who will attend the meeting. In this case, it would be appropriate to state, after that individual’s name, that he/she was invited by the parent.
The notice also states that a parent member, who is another parent of a student with a disability, will be a member of the Committee unless the parent of the student to be discussed prefers that this additional parent member does not participate. If the parent of the child prefers that the additional parent member not participate at the upcoming Committee meeting, the parent of the child must notify the district, in writing, of their intent to decline that person’s participation.
