The New York State Education Department (NYSED), Office of Special Education is seeking applications for those interested in an appointment as the education representative on the Office of Mental Health (OMH) PACC for the Long Island region.   As required by section 9.52 of the New York State Mental Hygiene Law, the Commissioners of the Office of Mental Health, Department of Social Services and Education Department appoint individuals to serve on committees in defined geographic areas to evaluate a child’s proposed admission or transfer to a residential treatment facility (RTF).  An RTF is a community-based psychiatric inpatient facility licensed by the Office for children and adolescents with severe emotional disabilities.

The NYSED appointed representative will review individual student records and meet monthly with PACC committee members to certify a child’s admission or transfer to an OMH licensed RTF.  The monthly time commitment is generally eight hours.  Compensation and travel reimbursement are provided by NYSED.

There is currently an opening in the Long Island Region of the State.  Individuals must be licensed in accordance with Education Law to practice medicine, nursing, psychology, or licensed clinical social work.  Applications for other regions of the State are welcome and will be kept on file in the event of an opening.
