Special Education

As of May 25, 2017, the following regional need for preschool programs located within NYC has been updated as follows:

INTEGRATED CLASS PROGRAMS
ALL complete applications for Special Classes in Integrated Settings throughout New York City will be considered (particularly bilingual classes).

SPECIAL CLASS PROGRAMS
A limited number of additional Special Classes (SC) are needed as follows:

BROOKLYN (Kings County)

  • One full-day Special Class with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 19.
  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 20, 21, or 22.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 13 or 20.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 19 or 32.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 13, 14, or 15 providing bilingual Spanish services.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 17.
  • Five full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 13, 15, 20, or 21.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 21 providing bilingual Yiddish services.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 22.               

BRONX (Bronx County)

  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 8, 11, or 12.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 8 or 9.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 8 providing bilingual Spanish services.
  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 10, 11, or 12.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 10 or 11.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 12.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 10 providing bilingual services (including Spanish).

QUEENS (Queens County)

  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 24 or 30.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 26.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 24, 25, 27, 30.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 27
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 25 with bilingual Mandarin services.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 28 with bilingual Bengali services.
  • Four full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 24, 28, 29, or 30 with bilingual Spanish services.

MANHATTAN (New York County)

  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 02
  • Two full-day Special Class with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 03
  • One full-day Special Class with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 05
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 01, 02, or 03
  • One full-day Special Class with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 06
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 02
  • Two full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 05 or 06

STATEN ISLAND (Richmond County)

  • Four full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 31
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 31
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 31
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 31 with bilingual Spanish services

MULTIDISCIPLINARY EVALUATION (MDE) PROGRAMS
A limited number of additional bilingual MDE programs are needed as follows:

  • BRONX – n/a
  • BROOKLYN – bilingual Arabic, Cantonese, Creole, and Mandarin
  • MANHATTAN – n/a
  • QUEENS – bilingual Albanian, Bengali, Farsi, Fulani, Fuzhounese, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Malayalam, Mandarin, Pashto, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, and Vietnamese
  • STATEN ISLAND – bilingual Russian and Sinhala

SPECIAL EDUCATION ITINERANT SERVICE (SEIS) PROGRAMS
A limited number of additional bilingual SEIS programs are needed as follows:

  • BRONX – bilingual Spanish
  • BROOKLYN – bilingual Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish
  • MANHATTAN – bilingual Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish
  • QUEENS – bilingual Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish
  • STATEN ISLAND – bilingual Russian and Spanish

Applications will be considered as they are received and determined to be complete.  Preference will be given to agencies currently approved to operate in NYC.  All programs requesting consideration must be able to provide all services indicated on the students’ IEPs.  This posting will be updated as classes are awarded to qualified applicants.  The application form can be found at:  http://www.p12.nysed.gov/specialed/applications/preschool-home.html
