Special Education

As of November 22, 2017, the following regional need for preschool programs located within NYC has been updated as follows:

INTEGRATED CLASS PROGRAMS
ALL complete applications for Special Classes in Integrated Settings throughout New York City will be considered (including, but not limited to, bilingual classes).  The following bilingual SCIS classes are most needed:

  • Full-day bilingual Cantonese Special Classes in Integrated Settings in Queens (Districts 25 and 26), Manhattan (District 04).
  • Full-day bilingual Mandarin Special Classes in Integrated Settings in Queens (Districts 25 and 26), Manhattan (District 04).
  • Full-day bilingual Spanish Special Classes in Integrated Settings in Bronx (Districts 10 and 11), Brooklyn (Districts 18, 19, 32), Queens (Districts 24, 25, 26, and 30), Manhattan (District 04).
  • Full-day bilingual Yiddish Special Classes in Integrated Settings in Brooklyn (Districts 14, 20, 21, 22).

SPECIAL CLASS PROGRAMS
A limited number of additional Special Classes (SC) are needed as follows:

BROOKLYN (Kings County)

  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving Districts 14, 20, 21, and 22.
  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving Districts 14, 20, 21, and 22 providing bilingual Yiddish services.
  • One full-day Special Class with an 8:1+2 ratio serving Districts 20, 21, and 22.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with an 8:1+2 ratio serving Districts 19 or 32.
  • One full-day Special Class with an 8:1+2 ratio serving Districts 13, 14, and 15 providing bilingual Spanish services.
  • One full-day Special Class with an 8:1+2 ratio serving District 32 providing bilingual Spanish services.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 21 and 22.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 21 and 22.
  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 18 and 32.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 32 providing bilingual Spanish services.     

BRONX (Bronx County)

  • Four full-day Special Classes with an 8:1+2 ratio serving Districts 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
  • Three full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 8, 9, and 12.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 8 providing bilingual Spanish services.

QUEENS (Queens County)

  • Two full-day Special Classes with an 8:1+2 ratio serving Districts 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, and 30.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with an 8:1+2 ratio serving Districts 24, 25, 26, 27, 29, and 30 providing bilingual Spanish services.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 24 and 30.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 24, 28, 29, and 30 providing bilingual Spanish services.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 28 providing bilingual Bengali services.
  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 25 providing bilingual Mandarin services.

MANHATTAN (New York County)

  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 02
  • Two full-day Special Classes with an 8:1+2 ratio serving District 01, 02, or 03
  • One full-day Special Class with an 8:1+2 ratio serving District 06
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 02.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving Districts 05 or 06.

STATEN ISLAND (Richmond County)

  • Two full-day Special Classes with a 6:1+2 ratio serving District 31.
  • Six full-day Special Classes with a 8:1+2 ratio serving District 31.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 31.
  • One full-day Special Class with a 12:1+2 ratio serving District 31 with bilingual Spanish services.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY EVALUATION (MDE) PROGRAMS
A limited number of additional bilingual MDE programs are needed as follows:

  • BRONX – n/a
  • BROOKLYN – bilingual Arabic, Cantonese, Creole, and Mandarin
  • MANHATTAN – n/a
  • QUEENS – bilingual Albanian, Bengali, Farsi, Fulani, Fuzhounese, Greek, Japanese, Korean, Malayalam, Mandarin, Pashto, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, and Vietnamese
  • STATEN ISLAND – bilingual Russian and Sinhala

SPECIAL EDUCATION ITINERANT SERVICE (SEIS) PROGRAMS
A limited number of additional bilingual SEIS programs are needed as follows:

  • BRONX – bilingual Spanish
  • BROOKLYN – bilingual Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish
  • MANHATTAN – bilingual Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish
  • QUEENS – bilingual Cantonese, Mandarin, and Spanish
  • STATEN ISLAND – bilingual Spanish

Applications will be considered as they are received and determined to be complete.  Preference will be given to agencies currently approved to operate in NYC.  All programs requesting consideration must be able to provide all services indicated on the students’ IEPs.  This posting will be updated as classes are awarded to qualified applicants.  The application form can be found at:  http://www.p12.nysed.gov/specialed/applications/preschool-home.html
