The New York State Education Department (NYSED), P-12 Education, Office of Special Education is pleased to announce professional development workshops for professionals interested in learning about age-appropriate transision assessments.
Overview of the Training
Transition planning and services, for students with disabilities, ages 15 and older, must be based on age-appropriate transition assessments relating to training, education, employment and , where appropriate, independent living skills. This workshop will provide school personnel with information on identification and selection of transition assessments and how information from such assessments relate directly to IEP development.
The target audience for this training includes Committee on Special Education (CSE) chairpersons, guidance counselors, school psychologists and other staff involved with the development of the IEP.
The goals of this training are to ensure that participants can:
- define transition assessment;
- identify transition assessments that are useful in developing post-secondary goals in the area of educaiton/training, employment and independent living; and
- utilize transition assessment information to guide development of the IEP.

The training workshop for Transition Assessments to Inform the Development of the IEP will be provided by the Transition Specialists of the Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Support Centers (RSE-TASC). Summary of Training
This training will provide participants with information on age-appropriate transition assessments to inform IEP development.
Participants will learn about the use of transition assessments to assist decision making in regard to instructional programming, annual goals, the development of measurable post-secondary goals and related transition services. Hands-on activities will be provided.
