Funding for Educational Technology

Funding to support Education Technology programs comes in different forms - grants, regular annual state aid for districts, through bond referenda, and through federal reimbursement of eligible educational technology-related expenditures.

  • New York State Learning Technology Grants (LTG) - The state-funded LTG program awards $3.2 million to sixty-four projects, annually. The purpose of the Learning Technology Grant (LTG) program is to improve student academic performance in relation to the New York State learning standards with a particular focus on mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) , and science through the integration of educational technology in Pre-K-12 classroom activities.
  • New York State Aid administered by the New York State Education Department includes regular annual appropriations in the New York State budget to support schools and districts.

  • New York State Smart Schools Bond Act (SSBA) - In November, 2014, the voters approved a ballot referendum authorizing the State to issue general obligation bonds in the amount of $2 Billion which can be used by school districts to purchase educational technology, secure improved internet connectivity, purchase high-tech security devices or build Pre-K classrooms.

  • Federal E-Rate Program - (Formally, the Schools and Libraries ProgramĀ of the Universal Service Fund) is designed to provide discounts to assist most schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access.
