Subject: New Procedures for Summer 2010 Extended School Year (July/August) Special Education Programs

Beginning with the Summer 2010 Extended School Year (July/August) Special Education Programs, if you have already been approved to run summer extended school year programs, you do not need reapply for them every year. This change applies to the following programs:

  • 9000 Full-day Special Class Programs
  • 9010 Half-day Special Class Programs
  • 9015-A – Related Services Only
  • 9015-B – Specially Designed Instruction Only
  • 9015-C – Specially Designed Instruction with Related Services and
  • 9015-D – Home/Hospital Instruction

These program approvals will rollover from year to year. The only time that you will need to complete an application is for the following:

  • If you want to establish a new full day or half-day special class program (9000 or 9010), please complete and return the 9000/9010;
  • If you are planning on establishing a new 9015 related service program (9015-A, 9015-B, 9015-C and/or 9015-D); or
  • If you plan to make any changes and/or modifications to the already approved 9000 Full-day or 9010 Half-day programs. These changes to these Special Class programs would entail: changing the approved student/staffing ratio; adding an additional student/staffing ratio to an existing program; modifying the approved age range; adding a disability classification; adding a related services or other services; and to modify the hours of operation. Please use the special class modification application form for these changes. If you are increasing or decreasing the number of classes at the already approved staffing ratio you do not need to complete a modification application.

If you are anticipating applying for any new program or any changes and/or modifications to previously approved programs, we recommend that you submit these applications as soon as possible. The deadline for submission of any new program application and/or any application for a program modification is June 30, 2010. Any application received after that date will not be accepted.
