Data Collection for 2012-13 School Year Incidents

Beginning this year (2013), the New York State Education Department is expanding its data collection processes. The new "Report on School Safety and the Educational Climate" (SSEC) will be composed of two parts:
  • SSEC - PART 1 collects data regarding violent and disruptive incidents (VADIR)
  • SSEC - PART 2 collects data regarding incidents of harassment and/or discrimination covered under the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
Data Collection Period: SSEC incident data may be submitted to the Department via the SED Online Portal beginning August 19, 2013. Data submissions must be completed by September 27, 2013.

Important Note on EARLY REPORTING: Schools that have been directed to do so by the Department must submit an early summary of the violent and disruptive (VADIR) incidents that took place in their schools between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013. This report must be submitted to the Department using the printable form found here (Early VADIR Summary Form (PDF) 29kB). The completed submission must be received by the Department no later than July 8, 2013.

Data Collection Process: Data should be submitted to the Department using the the NYSED Application Business Portal. Directions on how to log-on to the Business portal and access the BEDS/IMF/School Safety data-entry application can be found here.
